Just how much does a pearl necklace cost? by Patrick Cavanaugh

How much does a pearl necklace cost?

How much does a pearl necklace cost? Well of course that’s too general of a question to answer, directly. Prices of pearl necklaces range from $10 to $2,000,000., and every level between those two extremes.

The two ways to answer that are:

1. How much do you want to spend?

We started a whole section just to use price as a starting point. So if you want to spend $100, you go to that section. You have $500, then go to that section.

2. What necklace do you like?

You might look here first for the differences in pearl types:

Let us say for example you like the akoya pearl necklace.

Now the question is:
How much does an akoya pearl necklace cost?

Start here:
What size pearl?

A complete article dedicated to pearl sizes and who might wear specific size pearls.

then,

What length pearl necklace?

Read this article on pearl necklace lengths,

What grade of pearl?

Most people in the pearl business will recommend that you buy the best grade of pearl for your budget. And only then purchase the largest size in that grade that you can afford.

The idea for this is that the higher grade of pearl is a better choice because lower grades of cultured pearls have thin nacre and can chip or wear faster than higher grades with thicker nacre. The luster, which is the glow or radiance of a pearl, is better and more beautiful in the better grades. The reason the thicker nacre is more expensive is that it takes longer for the pearl farmer to harvest his treasure.
